Rossini- "Natural Causes" at the age of 76
Gershwin-Brain tumor at the age of 38
Satie- Cirrhosis of the liver at the age of 59
Greig -Heart attack brought on by chronic fatigue at the age of 64
Bach -Died from a stroke after eye surgery for cataracts at the age of 75
Mozart
- Many theories are around. Some by poison (Mercury was commonly
used in medicines of the time) but most likely complications from
Rheumatic Fever at the age of 35
Ives - Ives suffered a heart attack and also had diabetes, but he died of a stroke after a minor operation at the age of 80
Handel
- He wass seriously injured in a carriage accident and his eyesight
began to fail. He died 8 years later. It is thought to have
been from complications from a stroke brought on my the accident.
Ironically, Handel had eye surgery from the same doctor (John
Taylor) that treated Bach. Ummmm? Age of 74.
Schubert -Died of Typhoid Fever, a bacterial infection spread in contaminated food or water, at the age of 31.
Buried next to Beethoven and Brahms.
Beethoven
- It is said that he died during a hail storm. He went rowing and
caught a chill which progressed into pneumonia complicated by cirrhosis
of the liver. Age of 57
Brahms and Schubert are buried next to him at their request.
von Bingen - unknown age of 81
Ponce -Died of Uremia, a type of kidney failure, at the age of 66
Rimsky-Korsakov
-Died of angina, a symptom of heart disease that causes chest pain
because the heart muscle doesn't get enough oxygen. Age of 64
Vaughan Williams - Died of a heart attack at the age of 86
Brahms - Died of cancer of the liver at the age of 64
Buried next to Beethoven and Schubert.
Bartok - Died of leukemia at the age of 64
